In the latest episode of Big Brother Naija Season 9, the housemates faced an exciting cooking challenge sponsored by Tiger Foods Limited, famously known as Tiger Spices. The task began with the announcement at 5:31 PM on Tuesday 6th July 2024, and the housemates were divided into four teams. They had specific dishes to prepare:

  1. Team Tomato Stew: Rice and Beef
  2. Team Thyme: Jollof Rice and Beef Stew
  3. Team Curry Masala: Pasta and Fish
  4. Team Mayonnaise: Creamy pasta and Turkey

The Drama

Initially, the teams were not evenly distributed, prompting Big Brother to call for a reshuffle to balance the numbers. During this process, tensions arose. Rhuthee, a chef expressed concerns about being in the same team as Nelly, also a chef, fearing overshadowing. Similarly, Shaun was dissatisfied with his initial team, feeling it was an unfair advantage as it consisted only of boys. After some negotiation, Big Brother intervened to resolve the issues and finalize the team arrangements.

For the cooking segment, Big Brother set specific guidelines:

- Teams cooking rice were limited to 3 cups.

- Pasta teams were restricted to 2 packs of pasta.

- Each team had to plate their food and present it within 3 minutes after cooking.

Cooking Times:

- Teams Tomato Stew and Team Thyme had 1 hour and 30 minutes to cook.

- Teams Mayonnaise and Tiger Curry Masala had only 1 hour to cook.

Judging criteria included:

  1. Teamwork
  2. Taste
  3. Plating and aesthetics
  4. General understanding and use of Tiger Spices

Teams were instructed to use and highlight Tiger Foods products in their presentations. They also needed to stay out of the kitchen when it wasn’t their team’s turn.

Here’s how each team performed:

- Team Thyme: Composed of DoubleKay, Shatoria, and Nelita, they prepared Jollof Rice and Beef Stew. Anita led the presentation. She mentioned that they 'gave it a modern twist using Tiger products like Tiger Curry Masala, Larsor Chicken Seasoning, Tiger Thyme, and Tiger Tomato Stew Mix.' She highlighted that the Tiger Tomato Stew Mix was particularly easy to use, creating a rich, flavourful base with an aroma that filled the kitchen. The freshness of the Tiger Thyme was also emphasized.

In conclusion, she hoped the dish would provide a taste of home, embodying the essence of Tiger Foods, where great taste matters.

- Team Tomato Stew: Composed of Zinwe, WanniXHandi, and Aces. They presented creamy chicken pasta, with Chinwe handling the presentation. She reported that the creamy chicken pasta was made with Tiger Thyme, Tiger Curry Masala, Larsor Chicken Seasoning, Cooking Cream, Chicken Chunks, Bell Pepper for plating, Diced Fried Plantain, and Cabbage. The entire meal was prepared with love, and she hoped it would be enjoyed.

- Team Mayonnaise: This Team is composed of the Mbadiwe Twins, Ndi Nne, Chekas, and Beta. Ocee from the Mbadiwe Twins presented their Jollof Rice with Pepper Chicken Stew, accompanied by plantain and coleslaw. He stated that they prepared it with a collection of Tiger 100% Natural Ingredients. They used a variety of Tiger spices, including Tiger Tomato Stew Mix, Larsor Chicken Seasoning, Tiger Thyme, and Tiger Curry Masala. The Tiger Curry Masala was chosen for its blend of Indian curry and Mediterranean herbs, adding flavour and aroma to the meal. For the chicken, they marinated and fried it using the same spices, then combined it with the chicken stock and sauce to create the chicken stew. The plantain was chosen because its brown colour and stripes resemble those of a Tiger. The plantain was cut in stripes to match the T-shirt. The coleslaw was made using Tiger Mayonnaise, chosen to add extra flavour and balance to the meal by incorporating vegetables. Ocee expressed confidence that the dish would be enjoyed.

- Team Curry Masala: This Team is composed of Streeze, Flouruish, and Radicals. Rhuthie led the presentation of Tomato Creamy Pasta. Ruthiee reported that her team prepared a creamy pasta dish with veggies and diced fish. The fish was fried and marinated with Tiger Curry Masala, Tiger Thyme, Tiger Curry, Tiger Tomato stew Mix paste, and Larsor Fish Seasoning. Their dish included fried fish, sliced tomatoes, lemons for the fish, creamy tomato pasta, and a side of carrots and other veggies/ingredients that were available at the time. Rhuthie highlighted that Tiger Curry Masala added a nice spice to the dish. She mentioned that the most important ingredient was Tiger Mayonnaise, which was mixed with whipped cream and vegetable oil. Although she was initially worried about using it but it turned out well, and she expressed interest in trying it again in the future.

After tasting and evaluating, Big Brother commended all teams for their teamwork and the overall deliciousness of the dishes. The presentations were judged with Team Thyme and Team Mayonnaise receiving special mention. Ultimately, the overall winner of the Tiger Foods Cooking Task was Team Mayonnaise, consisting of Beta, Chekas, and the Mbadiwe Twins. Congratulations to Nne, Chinne, Ben, TJay, Onyeka, Chizoba, Ozee, and Ocee!
