Exclusive Ways to Cook on a Budget

Saturday, September 26th, 2020Food and DrinksAdmin

After the lockdown, grocery shopping, and creating nutritious meals on a modest budget is priority. With the economic downturn, food items have become very expensive. Regardless, enjoying a wholesome meal is achievable. Start by reviewing your monthly and yearly budget for housekeeping and make some adjustment to modify the current situation. To help, we have created some tips to help you get started. These smart tips are all you need to save money.

Plan Meal Around Items In Your Freezer
Do a 5-minute inventory of your fridge at least twice a week. Before drafting a plan, go through your freezer and kitchen cabinet. Building your recipes on the remaining foodstuff, inevitably makes you buy less at the grocery store.

The Shopping List Is a Guide to Similar Recipes
Good meal planning is like putting together a puzzle. Avoid selecting different recipes that don't fit together, or else you will end up buying different ingredients. The ingredient list is a guide to select recipes of almost the same ingredient. E.g. Spaghetti ingredient goes alongside with rice, that way you can cook once and eat twice.

Use Perishable Food Items First
At some point, we have thrown away wilted vegetables. First, cook those perishable food items in your fridge. Interestingly, perishable foodstuff gives you an idea to whip something nice without worrying about a frequent visit to the market. Toss wilting vegetables into a pot of soup or tomato stew. Make plantain Moimoi, plantain pancake, or banana bread with overripe plantain.

Make a Weekly Routine for Leftover
Who says Leftovers can be a boring meal? The ripple effect of the pandemic has made us save cost. For most people, that means using all the leftovers. When it comes to meal planning, leftovers are a key part of our plan. There are times you are tired to prepare a meal, scout your freezer for those leftovers, heat and enjoy yourself.

Set a Realistic Budget
To set a budget, take a look at your weekly grocery shopping to make informed decisions. Know how much is enough to cook two or more recipes, increase your bargaining power if you need be. Search for markets where you can get foodstuffs at the most affordable rate.

Cook Exhaustively Once a Week
Do you have a stable source of electricity? Yes! End the era of spending hours in the kitchen cooking every day. Take advantage of the weekend, restock and cook meals that will last you a week or even a month.

Never Go To the Market Hungry
This is a piece of kind advice. If you don’t want to spend more than you bargained for, never go on a shopping on an empty stomach. Shopping more than you bargained for makes you buy excess food items or that you don't need at the moment. Don’t shop when you or the kids are famished, eat snacks before going to resist impulse buying.

Diversify Where You Shop
It’s okay to have a frequent vendor you patronise; nevertheless, nothing restricts you from checking other food vendors to discover cheaper foodstuffs.

Are there other tips that have helped keep your spending habit in check, especially when you need to restock your home? Share at the comment section.

Thank you for stopping by.
