Fisherman's Soup That Will Leave Your Taste Buds Begging for More

Greetings, esteemed food enthusiasts! Allow us to introduce the beloved Fisherman's Soup, also known as Native Soup, hailing from the enchanting South-South zone of Nigeria. You can readily find this delightful soup listed on the menus of restaurants in Calabar, Uyo, and Port Harcourt. This culinary delight has captured the hearts of many. It's not hard to see or know why. With its rich medley of seafood, Fisherman's Soup is truly a seafood lover's paradise. When it comes to crafting this exquisite dish, there's no such thing as too much or too little seafood. In fact, the more, the merrier! Every succulent piece adds its unique flavor, creating a symphony of taste that will leave you craving for more.

Ingredients:
6 pieces of Fresh cat fish
4 Giant Snails
1 cup of Periwinkles
3 large Crabs
4 King Prawns
½ cup of Palm Oil
3 Yellow and red scotch bonnet pepper
1 cup Vegeta Onion
3 balls of pounded Cocoyam
¼ tsp of Uziza powder
1/5 cup of Uziza leaves
½ cup Crayfish powder
20g Larsor Fish Seasoning
2 small Okro (optional for garnishing)
Salt (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. In a pot, add the snail, crabs, fresh fish, King prawns. Season with Larsor Fish Seasoning, Vegeta Onion, scotch bonnet pepper and Salt. Add 1-2 cups of water and steam on medium heat for 10 minutes.
  2. Take out the fresh fish and prawns. Add your crayfish powder and allow the mixture to simmer for 2 minutes.
  3. Introduce the cocoyam paste, uziza powder and palm oil and bring to boil for another 6 minutes. Stir until the cocoyam dissolves and is evenly distributed throughout. Then, add sliced okro (optional), uziza leaves and the periwinkle. Allow the soup to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  4. Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  5. Re-introduce your fresh fish and prawns and your delicious Rivers State fisherman's soup is ready!

Serve it alongside Pounded yam, fufu or any other swallow of your preference. Enjoy!
