Gizdodo Recipe

Wednesday, November 27th, 2019RecipesAdmin

If you haven't understood the Gizdodo buzz or are yet to try it out, then you are missing out! Gizdodo is a dish that is somewhat synonymous with parties and celebrations in Nigeria. It is a mixture of gizzard, plantain and sauce, often taken at parties. It’s a fancy side dish for rice or as a party starter for small chops. Also, you can have it as a stand-alone meal. Here’s how you can make yours at home.

You will need
1/2 kg Chicken gizzards
Red bell pepper
Green pepper
Tiger Chili Pepper Powder
Vegeta Onion
1tsp Curry powder
1 Tiger Thyme
1tsp Tiger Garlic Powder
1tsp Tiger Ginger Powder
Vegetable Oil
1 Sachet Tiger Stew Mix
Diced/cubed ripe plantain
Larsor Beef Seasoning

Procedure
Boil the gizzards with Tiger Garlic Powder, Tiger Ginger Powder, Vegeta Onion, and Larsor Beef Seasoning till tender. Proceed to fry or grilling in the oven.

While the gizzards are boiling or frying, dice the plantain into cubes

In a saucepan, add your Vegetable Oil, Vegeta Onion, some chopped red bell pepper, green pepper, and Tiger Tomato Stew Mix. Fry for 5 minutes and set aside.

Salt the diced plantain and fry.

Take out some of the oil used to fry the plantain/gizzard and pour it in a deep saucepan. Add Tiger Curry Powder, Tiger Thyme, and fry for 1 minute. Note this method intensifies the flavour.

Add the remaining chopped peppers from Step 3 and Tiger Chili Powder, and saute till they wilt and soften.

Add the fried gizzards

Add chicken stock, and lower the heat.

Once the gizzard stew has thickened, add the plantains.

Yummy!... Your Gizdodo is ready to be scooped into big dip bowls and passed around for your guests or as a side dish to Rice, Spaghetti, or any other meal of your choice.

Enjoy with a bottle of our Bree Chardonnay!

Tell us, how soon would you be making this recipe and your twist to making this side dish?
