You shouted, 'We are outside!' last night, but today, 'Outside' is dealing with you
When your head is noisy like a market during rush hour because of the mixture you drank the other night, and it feels like someone is pounding a yam in your skull, just know the hangover has taken over.
It’s more than just a headache; it’s the weakness and the way it steals your productivity that really hurts.
Stop suffering already. Here is the menu you need to reclaim your day.
1. Pepper Soup (The Chief of Hangover Cures)
I’m talking about proper, spicy catfish or goat meat pepper soup made with our Larsor Peppersoup Seasoning. The mix of healthy herbs and spices like negro pepper, prekese fruit, garlic, calabash nutmeg, onion, etc.
Why it works: Alcohol makes you dehydrated and clears out your salt levels.
The salt and water in the broth help rehydrate you faster than just drinking plain water. While the spices open your system, make you sweat out, and clear your sinuses.
2. Boiled Plantain and Stew
If your stomach is growling and you feel like you might throw up, stay away from oily foods.
Go for boiled unripe or semi-ripe plantain instead.
Why it works: Alcohol in excess makes you lose potassium (which is why your muscles feel weak).
Plantains are loaded with potassium.
Pairing it with a light tomato sauce gives you the natural sugars you need to stop that 'shaky' feeling in your hands.
3. Beans and Ogi (Pap)
This is the easy recovery breakfast.
Why it works: Ogi is mostly water and easy-to-digest carbs. It’s gentle on a stomach that has been troubled by shots of too many mixtures of drink.
The beans provide a bit of protein to help your liver repair itself. It’s warm, it’s comforting, and it feels like a hug from your mom.
4. Garden Eggs and Groundnut Paste
If you aren't ready for a full meal yet, go find some garden eggs.
• Why it works: Garden eggs are high in fibre and have these specific properties that help protect the liver from hangover.
The groundnut paste gives you a quick burst of healthy fats and protein to keep your energy from crashing.
5. Coconut Water
Alcohol dehydrates you, which is why your mouth feels like sandpaper.
Instead of just drinking plain water, you need electrolytes.
Why it works: Coconut water is nature’s drip. It has the exact electrolytes your body is begging for at that moment.
Lastly, please avoid Garri for now.
I know you think a cold bowl of Garri with plenty of ice will soak the alcohol, but the fermentation in the Garri can sometimes make that bloated, gassy feeling worse. Stick to the soups and the Pap.
So, Next time the party is calling, remember the morning after.
But for now, take it slow, drink plenty of water, and get some rest.
